Integrity is critical
No matter what connections or abilities other people may have, integrity and attitude are critical. Before establishing any business relationship, make sure you have consistent and honest communication. If you sense there might be difficulties, resolve those issues before further investing your time or money in that person or their business.

Unfulfilled promises.
For a variety of reasons, people often make promises that they cannot fulfill. To avoid wasting your efforts, ensure that the person with whom you are dealing is the actual decision maker, and require that they also make some effort in return. In this way, those who have real interest and ability will become evident very quickly.

Free Services
Prior to entering into an agreement, it is often requested that there be some advice, information or samples without compensation. Sometimes your free product or ideas are used by the other party without any compensation or future cooperation. Ensure that your efforts can result in real value to you before you provide too much.

Seek as many opportunities as possible.
Before you commit to any deal, you should shop around. It not only will provide a better idea of the market, but will also provide a better bargaining position. The more opportunities you evaluate, the better your chances for success.

Do not get emotional
Every business decision should be based on objective factors. When your feelings rule your judgment, it may result in outcomes that you later regret. Always be detached and consider the economic and financial realities.

Put everything in writing!
You will hear repeatedly that in China deals are done on a handshake, and trust, not legal documents, is what really matters. In fact there are cultural differences, and many people do rely on oral agreements. Not surprisingly however, when agreements are not in writing there are often disappointments. If you cannot put an agreement in writing, walk away. If the other party is sincere, a written agreement is easy. When there is reluctance to put something in writing it may be a good indication that the deal you think you have is not the deal they want to give you.
